Connelly Comes Out

Jennifer Connelly:
Double dose
guilt

The beautiful JENNIFER CONNEL-
LY, who soared to stardom with her
2001 Oscar for A Beautiful Mind is
now co-starring in the horror thriller
Dark Waters, which opened last week.
A friend of Connelly's told me in
2000 that Connelly's mother was
Jewish, and I noted this info on my
Web site, wsvw.jewhoo.com . My note -
made its way to ADAM SANDLER,
and Connelly was mentioned in the
last version of Sandler's "Chanukah
Song." However, Connelly, so far as I
never told the press about her
"Jewish side."
She broke her silence in very recent
interviews with David Letterman and
a Connecticut newspaper. The actress
described herself as "an Irish Catholic
Jew" and said that she was raised with
"a double dose of guilt" — the news-
paper adding the detail that her moth-
er attended a yeshivah school.

Simchah Shtarkers

Opening July 15 is The Wedding
Crashers, a film starring Vince Vaughn

and Owen Wilson as two guys who
crash weddings hoping to find women
in a romantic mood.
In one scene, pretending to be
Jewish, they crash a Jewish wedding,
and in the background you can hear
"Hava Nagila" as played by the talented
Klezmer Juicers (also on the film's CD
soundtrack).
The very pretty Australian actress Isla
Fisher has her first big American movie
part as Vaughn's main love interest.
About a year ago, there were many news
reports that Fisher converted to Judaism
in advance of her pending nuptials to
Brit Jewish comedian SASCHA
BARON COHEN ("Ali G").
Well, a year later, the couple is yet to
be married, and one news site quotes
Fisher as saying she is "still working on
converting." Fisher said in another cur-
rent interview that she and Cohen are
still getting married for sure — we're
just not sure if she is kosher yet.

boyfriend DAVID WILDENSTEIN,
25. The pair was at a for-charity cele-
bration of the 75th anniversary of
ANNE FRANK's birth. Rossum per-
formed at the New York event, as did
Jewish celebs MICHAEL
FEINSTEIN, LOU REED and TIM

BLAKE NELSON.

David's a member of the famous
(Jewish) Wildenstein family of billion-
aire art dealers. Rossum's luster might
mitigate the family's bad publicity of
the last decade — from losing a libel
suit to an author who wrote that
David's great-grandfather did business
with slimy art dealers who dealt in art
looted from Jews by the Nazis — to
ALEC WILDENSTEIN's (David's
uncle) nasty public divorce from
Jocelyn Wildenstein. (Jocelyn is semi-
famous for having extensive plastic sur-
gery that made her face look hideously
lion-like. Tabloids dubbed her "the
bride of Wildenstein").

Details are beginning to emerge in
leading papers about STEVEN
SPIELBERG's untitled "Munich
Olympics Project," now being filmed.
In short, the movie is not going to
be a cheerleading action adventure
about the Israeli agents who hunted
down and killed all but one of the ter-
rorists behind the 1972 massacre of
Israeli athletes.
Rather, Spielberg is courting contro-
versy by showing the psychological
cost of the operation on those involved
and the many problems inherent in
tit-for-tat retaliation — no matter how
outrageous the provocation.
No, it won't be a controversy on the
level of Mel Gibson's The Passion of
the Christ, but the Jewish and general
press will be writing reams on this
film before it opens at the end of this
year.
