Hebrew Free Loan Officers
The Hebrew Free Loan Association
observed its 110th anniversary with its
first donor recognition event and
annual meeting on June 28. Richard
Broder was elected to his second term
as president.
Scott Leemaster, Michael Banks and
Peggy Daitch were elected vice presi-
dents, Stan Bershad, treasurer, and
Rob Schwartz, secretary. Elected to
new three-year terms on the board of
directors were Michael Berke, Jeff
Camiener, Edan King, Mila Kogan,
Rick Kovacs, Jeff Levine and Susan
Tapper.
Three loan recipients whose lives
...have been touched by Hebrew Free
Loan Association shared their experi-
ences and gratitude to the agency's
donors, leaders and staff.
The borrowers related their personal
stories of victory over hardship with
the help of the Jewish Federation.
The loans helped Bari Beckett to fulfill
her dream of starting a small business;
Alexander Israetal, a scientist from the
former Soviet Union, to begin a new
life in freedom, and Debra Kirschner,
a young mother, to start over after the
death of her husband.
This year, HFLA embarked on a
Friends annual membership campaign
and a major capital loan campaign to
assist with mounting operating needs
and the growing number of loan
requests in a difficult local economy.
Sam Bernstein chairs the Friends cam-
paign. David Kirsch heads the major
capital loan campaign.
At the meeting, it was announced
that nearly 750 donors have signed on
as Friends of Hebrew Free Loan; sup-
porters of the major capital loan cam-
paign have pledged $1.25 million.

ALS Research
Robert Jacobs, center, president of Buddy's Pizza, presented Florine Mark of
Farmington Hills-based WW Group Inc., right, with a $4,500 check for the
Dr. Bill and Florine Mark-Ross Fund for ALS Research. Each of the nine
Buddy's locations in Metro Detroit offered specialty pizzas and a percentage of
