Detroiters Aid Technion
Thirteen supporters from Michigan
took part in the American Technion
Society's mission to Israel. Participants
pledged $22 million to the Technion-
Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa.
Detroit native Stephen Grand dedicat-
ed the Stephen & Nancy Grand Water
Research Institute, where top Technion
scientists apply the most advanced tech-
nology to solve water-related problems.
The Robert & Rhea Brody Children's
Playground, dedicated by Robert and
Rhea Brody of Bloomfield Hills, is near
the university's Junior Staff Housing
Dormitories and provides recreation for
children of Technion researchers.
D. Dan Kahn of Bloomfield Hills
dedicated the D. Dan & Betty Kahn
Medical Robotics Laboratory in the
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
Kahn also dedicated the D. Dan &
Betty Kahn Technion Protective Shield
Project, which protects the campus, its
students, faculty and administration.
The mission also included a pre-trip
to Prague, Czech Republic.

and Jerry Kanter of Huntington Woods;
Jeremy Wolfe (D. Dan Kahn's grandson)

of Franklin; Larry Rich of West Bloom-
field, and Linda Kovan of Novi.

ORT Slates Dinner-Auction
The Detroit Chapter of American ORT
will hold its annual Rub-A-Dub dinner-
auction 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at
the Wabeek Manor in Bloomfield Hills,
home of Enid and Gary Goodman.
Tickets are $150 per person and may
be reserved by calling Nicole Muchnick,
event coordinator, at (248) 737-5542.
One can also call this number to pur-
chase raffle tickets or a journal ad or
donate an auction item. Proceeds will
benefit ORT's programs worldwide.
Chapter President Rob Colburn and
event co-chairs David Colbum and Brad
"Bubb" Urdan, along with members of
the Rub-A-Dub Committee, have
obtained a number of auction items.
The raffle's first price is a $5,000 shop-
ping spree donated by the Somerset
Collection, Troy; second prize is a
$2,500 gift certificate donated by
Tapper's Fine Diamonds and Jewelry,
West Bloomfield. Raffle tickets are
$100; the winner need not be present.
