Wolverines Connect mi.

... after friends' matchmaking efforts failed.

here's an effective matchmaker when you
need one? Don't bother asking Dan
Sapeika and Amy Applebaum of
Birmingham. They did just fine on their own. They
found each other in a student house when both
were University of Michigan students.
Although mutual friends were trying to match
them with others, it took five months before they
finally had their first date. About 3'/2 years later,
they returned to the Ann Arbor house where they
met and the restaurant where they had that date.
And Dan proposed.
It wasn't a total surprise for Amy, but Dan made
sure that the final destination was a secret until the
last minute.
In 2000, Amy was living at 1020 Church Street
with other housemates. One, Julie Kaplan, had a
boyfriend, Mike Frishman, who was a friend of
Dan's.
When Dan occasionally dropped in at the house
with Mike, he would notice Amy. But other than an
occasional word, nothing happened.
At the same time, Mike and Julie were working hard
at matchmaking, suggesting others for Dan and Amy
to date.
Finally, a young woman that the friends had tried to
match him with suggested that Dan should ask out
Amy.
So, five months after their initial contact, Dan
asked Amy for that first date — dinner at the Red
Hawk restaurant on State Street.
But Amy almost didn't make it to Ann Arbor.
She lived in the Detroit area as a youngster, but
her family moved to Los Angeles.
