Jewish Munks

SIMON WARONKER, a record exec
and the patriarch of a Hollywood fami-
ly chock full of musicians and record
execs, just died at age 90.
The fun footnote about Simon is
that the creator of the famous animated
Singing Chipmunks named the trio
(Simon, Alvin and Theodore) after
Waronker and two other Jewish record
execs.
Younger people probably know
Simon's grandson, JOEY
WARONKER, who has drummed for
Beck, R.E.M. and Smashing
Pumpkins. ❑
