fight local athletes have been
named to the U.S. team for
the Maccabiah Games in
Israel next month and one has been
named to the Canadian team. The
games begin July 10.

Jordan
Sabrina Must of Bloomfield Hills were
named to the U.S. soccer teams. Dani
Wohl of West Bloomfield made the
U.S. Maccabiah basketball squad.
Peter Orman of Waterford is on the
U.S. softball team. Alicia Beckett of
Ann Arbor was named to the junior
volleyball team, and Howard Waxer of
Farmington Hills, Lyle Schaefer of
Southfield and Dave Shanbaum of
Windsor will compete in 10-pin bowl-
ing. Michael Fishman of Birmingham
will compete in masters basketball.
Gruber was a high school star at
Birmingham Groves and was a leading
scorer and captain at Michigan State
University this year as a senior.
Must was All-League, All-Region,
All-District and team most valuable
player in soccer at Cranbrook
Kingswood High School in Bloomfield
Hills. A center midfielder, she played
this year as a freshman at Johns
Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Wohl, a graduate of West Bloomfield
High School, earned his degree in
sports management last month from

the University of Michigan. A point
guard, he played basketball at State
University of New York-Binghamton
his freshman year and played three
years on the U-M varsity team. He was
Academic All-Big Ten the last two
years with a 3.6 grade point average.
Orman, 40, was a member of the
2003/4 U.S. fast-pitch softball team at
the Pan Am Maccabiah in Chile. He
captained the football and baseball
teams at Birmingham Groves High
School and played both sports at
Hillsdale College.
For the last six years, Orman has
been head junior varsity football coach
at Orchard Lake St. Mary's High
School and was an assistant baseball
coach at Groves from 1999-2003.
Orman married Robin Bolton of
West Bloomfield June 11 and the cou-
ple will honeymoon in Israel after the
Maccabiah Games.
The three bowlers, Waxer, Schaefer
and Shanbaum, compete in the
Metropolitan Detroit B'nai B'rith
Bowlers Association, and Waxer is
association president. He has extensive
experience bowling in the Pan Am
Maccabiah and the games in Israel.
Beckett, 16, just completed her
sophomore year at Ann Arbor Pioneer
High School. She was MVP for the
freshman team last year and a varsity
starter this year. She also plays for
Huron Valley Volleyball Club and the
