Eddie Jacobson's ties to Truman played
key role in Israel's creation.

Molly Abraham
Jan., 2005

History is often forgetful, overlooking men and women with
extraordinary stories and relegating them to the dustbin of
human existence. Eddie Jacobson is one such person. Born of
humble beginnings, Eddie was a man of character and
charm. A businessman by trade, his biggest sell was in con-
vincing President Harry Truman, a lifelong friend, to support
the creation of the modern State of Israel.
More influential than Louis Brandeis and more powerful
than Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver, Eddie Jacobson and his
behind-the-scenes lobbying helped bring the Zionist cause to
David Hamstra
fruition, forever shaping American foreign policy and affect-
ing the lives of an entire people. As a Christian, I see the les-
sons of Eddie Jacobson as universal, cutting across different
religious and ethnic backgrounds. A self-proclaimed "real live nephew of Uncle
Sam," (quoted in Montague), Eddie was a patriotic American and a Reform Jew,
unafraid to risk his friendship for what he believed in.

Finally, after all of her hard work and dedication to the field
of science, Judy Resnik became the second woman and the
first Jewish woman to travel in space. On Jan. 28, 1986, she
proudly boarded the Challenger with a giant grin on her face.
In her heart, she felt a sense of ecstasy and pride in herself
Millions cheered as they watched her on television. The
Challenger was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in
Florida at 11:38 a.m. Unfortunately, Resnik and the rest of
the crew died at approximately 11:39 a.m. when the
Challenger exploded, just seconds after it had been launched.
Although Judy's life came to a sudden and tragic end, she
Brooke Selik
still left inspiring messages for women all over the world, and
her contributions to society made her very successful and
important in life. The big message that she left for me personally is to do all that I
can to contribute to the world. She also proved to me that your religion isn't some-
thing that should stop you from achieving, and that as women, we can give to the
society and we can make a difference and we're just as important as men are.

David "Mickey" Marcus is considered a hero to me and to
many others for his strength, courage and, most of all, love
for the countries and people he fought for during his life.
Mickey Marcus was an individual who truly succeeded in try-
ing to make the world a better place. He was devoted to both
America and the State of Israel and continued to defend each
of them throughout his life.
... Marcus will always be considered an American hero in
my eyes as well as in the eyes of many others, for the good
deeds that he did throughout his entire life. Marcus shows us
that one peison really can make a difference in society. He
