MEXICAN GRILL
Not just big burritos.
Big flavors.

"I play in clubs around the area,"
says DJ Jenny, 29, of West
Bloomfield, whose mainstay earnings
come from being a managing partner
in a custom-made furniture business.
"I have 300 to 400 vinyl recordings
and more than 1,000 CDs because my
style is so versatile with different kinds
of music. This is a hobby that pays for
itself."
DJ La Femme, a Russian immigrant
who started performing with a party
organized for other Russian immi-
grants, says she brings enough record-
ings to satisfy all kinds of tastes in
dance.

Yiddish In Oak Park

Elaine Serling of West Bloomfield
will be presenting songs that fit into
the realm of Yiddish music. She will
sing accompanied by Stefan
Kukurugya on piano. "A Bis'l Yiddish"
begins at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at
the Jimmy Prentis Morris Building in
Oak Park.
"There will be a few of my own
songs in a concert that explores what
Jewish music is," says Serling, 57, who
will include "Eretz, Eretz," which
defines Israel as a wonderful place to
be, and "Sing a Song for Peace,"
which extols the peaceful mind.

and eclectic."
Serling, who teaches an exercise class
at Congregation B'nai Moshe in West
Bloomfield, has been singing and
dancing since childhood. During a
year of living in Israel and working as
a nurse, she learned about music in
that country.
"I will have a tapestry of eclectic
sounds and rhythms," says Serling,
who has appeared with the Festival

Gerard Edery, back, and his ensemble

Dancers and won a Jewish Women in
the Arts Award. "I feel honored to be
part of the Jewish contemporary
scene."

ings as incredible opportunities to
reach out to each person and help
them all open up and connect in a
really positive, Jewish way," says
Recht, who recently appeared in con-
cert at Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
