Artist Mel Rosenberg, who lives at
Danto Family Health Care Center on
the Applebaum Jewish Community
Campus in West Bloomfield, was
honored with a solo exhibition of his
paintings May 10.
Rosenberg, 79, has been a lifelong
painter. A writer and photographer,
Rosenberg had a stroke in 1986 that
left him paralyzed on his right side
and affected his speech. Over two
years, with the encouragement of his
wife, Dorothy, he learned to paint
left-handed.
Dorothy died in 1994, and
Rosenberg moved to Danto eight
years later after his legs were amputat-
ed because of complications from dia-
betes. The exhibition showed off his
figurative and abstract paintings. The
event was the second in Danto's
Heart's Desire program, which allows
residents to fulfill their heart's desire
and share it with the community.

story development editor
