about celebrities.
For decades, she was well known in
the Detroit area for her programs on
radio station WJR-AM and television's
WJBK-TV (Channel 2) and columns
in the Detroit Free Press.
Ms. Eder, formerly of Southfield,
died May 28, 2005, from complica-
tions of Alzheimer's disease in her
hometown of New York City. She was
85.
Her son, John Slotkin of New York
City, said their Detroit home was fre-
quently filled with visiting celebrities.
She was buddies with Bob Hope and
Frank Sinatra,
"My mother got her start at the age
of 17 or 18 when she was a runner for
Orson Wells' radio show in New York
City," Slotkin said. She quit after two
weeks.
"She hated the job but loved radio."
Growing up, Ms. Eder honed her
interviewing skills through the many
celebrities that visited her parents'
home in New York. She later used
those skills for her radio and TV
shows, starting in the 1940s.
