Jewish Tony Nominees

The Tony Awards air on CBS beginning 8 p.m. Sunday, June 5. As usual,
there are quite a number of Jewish nominees.
In the acting categories, there's HANK AZARIA, best leading actor (musi-
cal) for Monty Python's Spamalot (which is predicted to sweep the Tonys);
MARC KUDISCH, best featured actor (musical) for Chitty Chitty Bang
Bang, JOANNA GLEASON, best featured actress (musical) for Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels (Gleason's father is game show legend MONTY HALL); and
LIEV SCHREIBER, best featured actor (drama) for Glengarry Glen Ross.
Nominees in the composer/lyricist category include ADAM GUETTEL
(the grandson of the legendary RICHARD RODGERS) for The Light in the
Piazza; DAVID YASBECK (the son of a Lebanese Arab father and a Jewish
mother) for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels-, and WILLIAM FINN for The 25th
Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. RACHEL SHEINKIN is nominated
for best book for a musical for Spelling Bee.
In the directing category, nominees include JAMES LAPINE for Spelling
