passed the 25,000 mark.
Salmon and fresh whitefish are his
biggest seafood sellers ... Vodka
Salmoni, with imported Norwegian
salmon, sun-dried tomatoes and
asparagus, in a cream vodka sauce over
a bed of penne pasta, is a popular
request ... Also the Fruiti de Mare:
fresh mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari
and scallions sauteed in a light red or
white sauce, served over linguine.
"I love everybody," says Angelo,
when asked why the pictures that line
a hallway and are strewn around the
restaurant, are only of him and
woman customers, "but the ladies
make me look good."
Hours are Monday-Thursday, 11-
10; Friday and Saturday, 10-11;
Sunday, 4-10 ... Dinner specials are
Monday-Saturday only.
Angelo Georgizas has always been a
popular host ... going from table to
table greeting customers with a smil-
ing informal charm ... And seeing his
restaurant celebrate its first anniversary
is a big thrill for him.
Angelo's Bistro has made it through
the trial-and-error tough times of a
restaurant's first year ... and steadied
its course for what many hope is a lot
of smooth sailing ahead.

PREMIER RESTAURATEUR

Raymond Wong, whose reputation
goes back to when he had Wong's
Eatery in Windsor years ago, is maitre
d' host at Shangri-La in West
Bloomfield's Orchard Lake Road at 15
Mile.
Probably with suggestionk like the
big favorite stir-fried shrimp and
chicken inside a half cantaloupe like
he used to serve at Wong's.
Raymond is assisting longtime
friend, Cholada Chan, Shangri-La's
owner, who was a customer with her
family at Wong's Eatery over 25 years
past ... He's also updating her wine
and sake lists.
By the way, Shangri-La now has
combination dinner specials Monday-
Saturday, 4-6:30, that include egg roll
and fried rice ... 14 at $9.95 and four
at $11.95 ... It is open seven days a
week.
HE'S A SMART businessman not
to compete against himself... Which is
why Patrick Coleman didn't make his
second restaurant the same as his
Beans & Cornbread in Southfield.
Pat's new Urban Wings, off 14 Mile
Road, east of Farmington Road, West
Bloomfield, is anything but a soul food
dining spot ... with total concentration
on ribs, both regular and beef, chicken,
shrimp, gourmet-style pizza, etc.
And the beef ribs are not the big

bulky hard-to-hold kind, but smaller
pieces on the bone, basted with a deli-
cious sauce.
NEWLY NAMED Bombay Grille,
former Shalimar, on Orchard Lake
Road, between 12 and 13 Mile in
Farmington Hills, continues its all-
new ownership goings-on with a lot of
foot-stompin' and shakin' music.
Every Thursday evening, 6-10 p.m.,
is the GEQ Jazz group with its
rhythms including renditions from
their CD, Here... Put This On among
other classic interpretations ... Tunes
like Dizzy Gillespie's "A Night in
Tunisia," Duke Ellington's."Take the A
Train," Charley Parker's Ornithology,"
etc. plus a couple by trumpet
gent/leader Guyman Ensley.
CONGRATS ... To Sima Parr on
her 65th birthday ... To Ron Asmar on
his 54th birthday, celebrated with a
large cake baked at his Vineyard's bak-
ery and cut up for the Vineyards' staff
and customers.
AFTER 13 YEARS inside, the
open-air ceremonies went over so big
last year that they will again be held
outside for the 15th Annual Hank
Greenberg Memorial Golf & Tennis
Invitational.
Date is Monday, June 6, at Tam
O'Shanter Country Club in West
Bloomfield ... with Hall of Fame
catcher Johnny Bench receiving the
Hank Greenberg Lifetime
Achievement Award as attendance
again expected to reach another high.
MAIL DEPT ... "We really enjoy
your articles and try many of your sug-
gestions. We are sure you already know
about Fonte D'Amore on Plymouth in
Livonia, but we thought we would
drop you a note anyway. It is old-fash-
ioned Italian and terrific, right up
there with Moro's in Allen Park. We
can almost always get in, which sur-
prises us since it serves such a great
meal. The service is good and they
have a jazzy piano player every night
who is terrific. The food is outstand-
ing.
"We almost always get a Shrimp
Gambini appetizer and then what we
think is the best veal chop around.
They are a little weak on their
spaghetti sauce, but everything else is
really great. I think they may also own
Bacco (old Di Modesta location on
Northwestern). We've been to both,
but like Fonte D'Amore better because
it is very relaxed and has a kind of cold
family feel."' ... Sandy and Steve
Landau, Northville. ❑
