Levine, 42, who does market analy- sis for Paramount Pictures and has worked as a stand-up comedian, likes to be hopeful and point out life's pos- sibilities for love, happiness and change. He says that reflects his own happy experiences in the past eight years, during which he dated, married and became a father. Although his scripts don't reference his Jewish background, they will on occasion mention God in positive ways. "I'm trying to be as universal as pos- sible," says Levine, who majored in drama at Carnegie Mellon University. "I think wanting to make people laugh is a Jewish cultural goal." Feinstein's play derives from a longer production. After taking out the seg- ment from another work, he felt it could stand on its own as one brother urges another to take on travel adven- tures. Although the characters are Jewish, there is no actual Jewish con- tent in the play. "I've been writing all my life," says Feinstein, 75, a former English teacher who tests his skills by working with a local theater group, Playwrights at Work.
