"I want to make people laugh," says
Levine, whose comedies have been
produced in Los Angeles, Boston,
Indianapolis and other cities. " The Kiss
has one friend asking another to evalu-
ate his romantic style."
Levine, 42, who does market analy-
sis for Paramount Pictures and has
worked as a stand-up comedian, likes
to be hopeful and point out life's pos-
sibilities for love, happiness and
change. He says that reflects his own
happy experiences in the past eight
years, during which he dated, married
and became a father.
Although his scripts don't reference
his Jewish background, they will on
occasion mention God in positive
ways.
"I'm trying to be as universal as pos-
sible," says Levine, who majored in
drama at Carnegie Mellon University.
"I think wanting to make people laugh
is a Jewish cultural goal."
Feinstein's play derives from a longer
production. After taking out the seg-
ment from another work, he felt it
could stand on its own as one brother
urges another to take on travel adven-
tures. Although the characters are
Jewish, there is no actual Jewish con-
tent in the play.
"I've been writing all my life," says
Feinstein, 75, a former English teacher
who tests his skills by working with a
local theater group, Playwrights at
Work. "Initially, I didn't have much
respect for short plays, but when I saw
