Israelis Come To Tamarack Thanks to strong community support and close ties between hundreds of families and friends here and in Israel, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and Fresh Air Society are part- nering to welcome 106 young people from Israel to Camp Tamarack this summer. Initially established through the Federation's Israel Emergency Campaign to provide Israeli youth a Michigan camping experience and safe haven during the height of terrorist activity in Israel, the program now enjoys success as a cultural exchange and a means of building ties between Michigan and Israel. Campers and madrichim (coun- selors) range in ages from 12 to 17 years old and include young people from Detroit's Partnership 2000 region in the Central Galilee and the Israeli Scouts Movement. The group will attend two camp sessions from July 15 through Aug. 14. Additionally, local families will host campers in their homes during the weekends of July 15- 17 and Aug. 11-14. Events scheduled for campers and their host families include a Detroit Tigers game at Comerica Park, made possible through the support of corporate partner Caribou Coffee. "Camp Tamarack is all about build- ing lifelong memories and lasting rela- tionships," stated Steve Goodman, chair of Federation's 2005 Israeli Camper Program. "No community does what Detroit has done in provid- ing this rare opportunity to connect with our brothers and sisters in Israel." My move to The Park at Trowbridge was a wonderful experience. The entire community is warm and gracious, and I was welcomed like royalty. I like everything about The Park at Trowbridge the wonderful staff, food, transportation, entertainment, friends and neighbors. And now I can choose to be by myself or surrounded by friends. I've never had it so good." Letter written by Marian B. - resident Call toll-free or visit today!
