Her limited spare hours were spent on such projects as being co-founder of the school's Public Interest Law Association, volunteer clerk at Michigan Legal Services in Detroit and co-chair of Students Helping Students Read. The daughter of Stuart and Janet Rappaport of Commerce Township, Nicole also was a tester for the Fair Housing Center in Detroit and spent two years working at the Free Legal Aid Clinic in Detroit, including the last year as litigation supervisor. As symposium director for the Journal of Law in Society, Nicole's most recent endeavor was to oversee this year's symposium, titled "The Overpopulated Prison System: Need for Change and Rehabilitation." younger. I was happy with the choice, because it was one of the topics I suggested and because during the time I worked with Michigan Legal Services, I did research on the sub- ject with the parale- gal advocate there." How was the topic discussed? "A group of panelists — two attorneys, two social workers and one paralegal-advocate for prison rights — each spoke about their involvement with prisoners." With attendees including 75 law students and others, would you say the symposium was a success? "Absolutely. I would say it was a phenomenal success. What partici- pants were able to hear was that prisoners are people, too. And that a lot of them were imprisoned for something they did when they were When the intense work and studying of law school is finally over this spring, will you take a break? "Actually, as soon as I graduate, I'll start studying for the bar exam." — Shelli Liebman Dorfman, staff writer Know a Doer — someone of any age doing interesting, meaningful things in their life outside of their job?
