ome of the models may have
been pint-sized, but the participa-
tion at Temple Israel Sisterhood's
first Children's Fashion Show and Tea
was plenty large.
"The idea for the program came about
as we were discussing events that would
appeal to younger members (and poten-
tial members) of Temple Israel
Sisterhood," said Deborah Schiffer, vice
president of programming for the group
and co-chair of the event along with
Korky Olson, both of West Bloomfield.
The March 13 fashion show high-
lighted 28 young models, many of
whom are children of sisterhood mem-
bers or students in the West Bloomfield
synagogue's nursery school.
Emcee Susan Loss of Bloomfield Hills
"provided humorous anecdotes and
amazing descriptions of the beautiful
clothing as our participants jumped into
spring with their high-styled fashions,"
Schiffer said.
Guests dined on sandwiches, tea and
dessert; patronized the dozen vendors
who set up at a boutique shopping area;
and learned about the sisterhood from
the group's president, Eileen Isenberg of
West Bloomfield.
Temple Israel Sisterhood sponsors
social, cultural, educational and volun-
teer service opportunities. It hosts an
annual art fair and an Institute on
Judaism for public school teachers, pro-
vide Chanukah and Passover gift pack-
ages to the synagogue's college students,
assist during the synagogue's week of
Housing the Homeless and are involved
with the Youth Federation of Temple
Israel. The group also runs the Temple
Israel Gift Shop, selling ritual objects,
books, Judaic artwork, jewelry and greet-
ing cards.
In addition to the financial success of
the fashion show and tea, some partici-
pants promised to become new mem-
bers. There is discussion of making the
event an annual one. Also, Schiffer said,
"Many asked how they could have their
children be on the list to model next
time.
