lbert Watnick took. June
Oleshansky to Northville
Downs on their first date
more than 55 years ago.
June put her money down on three
races, basing her bets on the horses'
names. Laugh if you want to, all three
of her horses won.
On the other hand, Albert bet on
eight races and didn't win a cent. But
he won a bride.
"That first date was a winner," he
said.
He quickly realized that June was
the one for him.

Despite the seven-year difference in
their ages (he is 80, she 73), he recalls
that she seemed older when they met.
His aunt and uncle arranged for the
two to meet; but the aunt exaggerated
June's age, telling Al that she was older
than 18.
June recalled that Al, who liked horse
racing, suggested the date. It didn't take
long for the two to become serious.
Within three months, they were
engaged. Three months later, they mar-
ried on Jan. 8, 1950.
Watnick, a graduate of Detroit
Northern High School and Detroit
Institute of Technology, has been a
pharmacist for 60 years. For the past
45 years, he has owned Tridaly Drugs

West Bloomfield. Arin is also the
great-granddaughter of the late Max
Miller. Arin Jaina is named in loving
memory of her paternal uncle Adam
Miller and her maternal great-grandfa-
ther Yevgeny "Jenya' Amelkin.

Goodbinder of Birmingham are

His work schedule is now three days a
week, followed by workouts at a
Southfield health club. June, a Detroit
Central High graduate, is a homemaker.
Albert plans to keep working. "It
keeps me out of the house," he quipped.
Their family helped them mark
their anniversary in mid-January, coin-
ciding with Al's 80th birthday. The
dinner celebration included family
members and grandchildren.
Both Watnicks grew up in the for-
mer Jewish neighborhood on Detroit's
near west side. Now residents of West
Bloomfield, they are members of
Temple Beth El.
The couple has traveled around the
