he JCC Lenore Marwil Jewish
Film Festival opened in Ann
Arbor Sunday night at the
Michigan Theater with the Harold and
Sarah Gottlieb Prize-winning film, A
Journey of Spirit, directed and produced
by Ann Coppel. This film is about the
life and work of contemporary Jewish
musician Debbie Friedman.
Prior to the showing of the film, the
Jewish Community Center of
Washtenaw County hosted a buffet
supper in the theater's historic lobby
for more than 150 film sponsors and
festival supporters.

Joel Marwil, whose family has
endowed the Lenore Marwil Jewish Film
Festival, said, "It is so rewarding for peo-
ple to come together and see these films.
The festival is about sharing different
aspects of the Jewish experience."

Leslie Bash, JCC executive director,
has been pleased with how the film fes-
tival has grown since it began in Ann
Arbor four years ago. She attributes the
success of the evening's event to the
