JNPLATINUM
With four-wheel vented disc rac-
ing-inspired Brembo brakes, rack
and pinion steering and a perform-
ance-tuned suspension, this Caddy
also is built to handle.
First gear is a bit tricky. If you
try to shift too early, i.e., before you
reach 15 mph, the transmission will
skip to fourth gear because it sens-
es that you're driving like a retired
person.
But if you miss second gear,
you're missing the best part.
Second gear alone is worth half the
$49,300 base price. The engine
takes on a Maserati-like rumble,
and the car leaps into action.
Be careful, though. This car is
rear-wheel drive and a bit trickier
to handle on a slick road. Its top
speed is 163 mph, and you can still
get a ticket in third gear. It's just as
quiet as the Cadillacs of old, but it
doesn't have that glide.
The back seat is roomy enough,
but not the size of the old Tiger
Stadium infield like the Coupe
DeVille's.
The CTS-V I took out cost
$52,495, including a DVD naviga-
tion system, XM satellite radio and
sunroof.
The car only gets 15 mpg in the
city and 23 on the highway, but you
don't buy a car like this because
you're a tree-hugging hippie.
You're past that stage.

Thanks to Audette Cadillac in West
Bloomfield for allowing Cool Runnings
to cruise the roads in the awesome
CTS- V.
