Schlichting, presi- dent and chief executive officer of the Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System, at a dinner in her honor, 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn. Schlichting joined the Henry Ford Health System in 1998. Today, Schlichting is responsi- ble for strategic and Schlichting operational direction and performance. The tribute evening's speaker will be Allan D. Gilmour, retired vice chairman of Ford Motor Company and former chairman of the board of Henry Ford Health System. The evenings co-chairs are Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. Alandt, Penny Blumenstein, Walter and Retha Douglas, Mr. and Mrs. Edsel B. Ford II, David Baker Lewis, Anna and Martin Taylor, Gail L. From 5:30-6:15 p.m., youngsters through first grade and their families are invited to a Tot Shabbat Service, Adat Shalom's new Shabbat Shaboom. Rabbi Rachel Shere, Dan Shere and Alisa Zdrojewski will conduct this musical family Shabbat service. Beginning at 6:15 p.m., the congrega- tion will join in the nationwide initiative Shabbat Across America to promote the celebration of Shabbat in the synagogue and at home. During dinner, Adat Shalom clergy will explain and teach the standard Shabbat home rituals: lighting candles, reciting Kiddush, traditional washing of hands, Hamotzi and Birkat Hamazon. Jeffrey Devries, Carol Weintraub Fogel and David Goodman are co-chairing the evening. Shabbat Rocks will return to Adat Shalom at 7:30 p.m. when the clergy will conduct a musical Kabbalat Shabbat service. The community is invited to welcome Shabbat with Rabbi Daniel Nevins on drums, Cantor Yevsey Gutman and Dan Shere on guitar, and ruach specialists Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz and Rabbi Rachel Shere. There is a $20/adult dinner charge and a $10 fee for children, 3-10. There is no charge for toddlers under age 3 who are sharing a meal. For two consecutive Sundays from 1-5 p.m. and by group appointments Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., children may explore the 18- minute matzah making. The event is offered through the sup- port of Barbara and Douglas Bloom and is conducted under the rabbinic supervi- sion of Rabbi Amzalak and members of the Bais Chabad. Wednesday Evening Passover Food For Needy The Moies Chetim Organization of Detroit and Yad Ezra once again join forces for a special Passover Campaign to distribute food packages to more than 1,100 needy Jewish families. The Passover food distribution to client families is scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, April 17, and 2:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, April 18, at Yad Ezra's warehouse, 2850 W. 11 Mile Road, Berkley. Volunteers and board members from Yad Ezra will distribute the food pack- ages, which contain all the items neces- sary for a Passover seder, and Passover guides donated by the Agency for Jewish Education. Boxes are donated by Mike Balkin and Balkin Products. Volunteers are needed to work the following shifts for distribution: 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., noon-4 p.m. Sunday, April 17; 2:30-4:30 p.m., 4-6:30 p.m. Monday, April 18.
