Henri Wolff, 79

Paris/JTA — Henri Wolff wanted to
attend the recent 60th anniversary of
the liberation of Auschwitz, but was
too sick. In the past, he had accompa-
nied junior high and high school
groups to Auschwitz 44 times.
Mr. Wolff believed that educating
young people about the Germans'
killing machine was the best way to
prevent another genocide. Most of the
groups he accompanied weren't Jewish.
Mr. Wolff, 79, of Paris, died of can-
cer on March 17, 2005. He was born
near Lodz, Poland. His family fled to
Belgium and then France in 1942.
When he was 16, they were rounded
up by French police. He and his
mother were sent to Auschwitz, where
she was slain. Mr. Wolff went to Israel
in 1948, was injured in the battle of
Latrun and was sent back to France
with the wounded.
There, he went into the shoe busi-
ness. He became part of French society
and dedicated himself to teaching
youngsters about the Holocaust.

Correction

• The obituary for Norman Zukin
(March 24) should have indicated that
he is survived by a daughter and son-
in-law, Sheryl and John Logue of
Commerce Township and that he was
the dear brother of the late Walter
Zukin.

In ''74 Georgia Ave..- businessman
returns to boyhood home, where
once-thriving synagogue draws
him into strange, haunting journey.
