LUNGevity Walk

A walk-a-thon for the LUNGevity
Foundation will take place Sunday,
April 3, at the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor. The event, which will
attract participants from the Detroit
and Ann Arbor Jewish communities,
begins with a rally on the Diag at 11
a.m., followed by a three-mile walk
around campus.
The speaker at the rally will be U-M
alumna Melissa Lumberg Zagon, a
former Detroiter now living in
Chicago. In September 2000, Zagon,
a non-smoker, was diagnosed with
stage IV lung cancer with metastasis to
the brain.
Zagon, daughter of Sherri and Eddie
Lumberg of West Bloomfield, founded
LUNGevity, the only nonprofit organ-
ization in the United States exclusively
devoted to funding lung cancer

Zagon had been an active member
of Temple Israel's youth group and an
intern with Project JOIN at the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
She is also a graduate of Harvard Law
School.
The U-M fund-raiser is being coor-
dinated by Kate Schmier of
Birmingham, a board member on the
University Students Against Cancer.
