Sometimes Shulman's guests are
requested to arrive in costume.
When the evening's theme was
"Shulman High," guests dressed in
clothes from their high school eras.
The party room included a board with
their high school graduation photos.
While the party planning is
Shulman's arena, the festivities are co-
hosted by her husband, Dr. Marvin
Shulman, who has proven be a great
sport, more than once dressing in a
frilly, netted tutu to fit a theme creat-
ed by his wife. "My, what I've gotten
him to do — all for fun," she said.
And it's not only the hosts who have
been willing participants. Through the
years, guests have donned feathers,

blue face paint and Joseph's "amazing
technicolor dream coat" as well as
fuzzy wigs, fake noses and curly tails.
But sometimes, the evening's dress is
more formal. On "Oscar Night,"
guests arrived in tuxedos and gowns to
be greeted by paparazzi (actually
Andover students with cameras). Their
hosts dressed as Whoopi Goldberg and
Burt Reynolds. The room was decorat-
ed with human-sized Oscar cutouts
and gold stars with names of famous
Academy Award winners.
"My guests never know what to
expect," Shulman said.

This past January marked the first
time in 19 years the Shulmans didn't
host their party. "It was just time to
stop them. It started in October,
rehearsing sometimes twice a week.
But it was still very hard to give up,"
Shulman said.
The final annual event, the "Chai
Party," was held last year. "We ended
on a "chai" note," Shulman said. "But
there will definitely still be a few more
