and brother Sandro Grossi is the bar-
tender.
Something even as uncomplicated as
Italian-style chicken rice soup with
tomatoes, herbs and pieces of chicken,
receives an innovative touch that fur-
ther enhances its simple but very tasty
character.
Seating at Volare Ristorante is 130,
plus 20 stools at the Red Dragon
granite bar ... and during the warm
months there's an 80-seat outdoor
patio ... It is a seven-day dining opera-
tion, open Monday-Friday, 11-11;
Saturday, 5-11; Sunday, 4-9.
The strikingly beautiful interior is
elegantly enhanced with Panamanian
mahogany wood trim and floors,
Venetian plaster walls, an almost
2,000-bottle wine room and a pictur-
esque mural of a street scene in Rome.
When Volare Ristorante opened on
Nov. 15 of 2004, much was expected
with Dino and Joe preparing the food,
and Tim Hurley, former sommelier
and server at Tribute and Volare's
highly regarded, certified sommelier ...
To be sure, thus far it has certainly
lived up to its high billing.
IN THE FACE of many rumors
that may have been heard, it looks to
be almost a done deal that Craig
Dilworth, owner of the former Ocean
Grille in Birmingham, may soon open
a seafood restaurant at the previous
site of Big Daddy's Parthenon in West
Bloomfield.
Locale is on Orchard Lake, just
north of Maple ... in what Dilworth
says has taken much longer than
expected, but hopefully will open
sometime in summer of this year.
Good news, too, that the owner will
be a bona fide seafood operator, highly
steeped in the excellent seafood tradi-
tion of the late Chuck Muer ... Craig
was Chuck's director of operations 10
years for his fine dining spots
(Charley's Crab, Gandy Dancer, etc.)
before opening Ocean Grille, which he
operated for 15 years.
IT'LL BE AMONG the very rare
firsts ... opening for lunch just one day
a week ... That's what Sposita's Italian
Ristorante, 14 Mile just east of
Farmington Road in West Bloomfield,
will soon do.
Lunch on Fridays only, from 11 a.m.
... as of April 1 ... with Sposita's featur-
ing a completely new lunch menu ...
and lower prices ... for the uncommon
lunch opening of just one day a week.
GREEN CHOCOLATE? ... Sure,
why not? ... If there can be green
corned beef and cabbage, etc., why
not green chocolate? ... Doesn't sound
very appetizing but neither do the oth-
ers ... The green chocolate was
brought in by Vineyards in
Farmington Hills, who catered the
recent Paul W. Smith St. Patrick's Day
celebration show over WJR Radio.
Maggie's green chocolate flowed
from three four-tiered fountain bars
dipped into by over 750 guests,
including numerous VIPs at a 5:30 to
10 a.m. breakfast provided by
Vineyards in the Fisher Building lobby
... Plus the hand-dipped goodies were
the likes of green bagels, green cream
cheese, green butter and green choco-
late-covered strawberries, along with
the regular breakfast fare.
CONGRATS ... To Edith Tucker on
her 97th birthday ... To her son
Bernard Tucker on his 78th birthday.
NOW COMES ANOTHER quite
unique concoction .. a liqueur made
from coffee beans ... It was launched
at a cocktail party for 45 people at
Southfield's Morton's, The Steakhouse
... The drink is called Starbuck's
Coffee Liqueur ... and made exclusive-
ly with Starbuck's roasted java beans ...
The event was hosted by Morton's,
Starbuck's and Absolut
shindigs on tap by Morton's include a
wine tasting, May 23, golf outing and
charity benefit this summer.
NOT YOUR USUAL type of all-
you-can-eat Sunday brunch, but one
with five stations for leisurely-paced
dining ... It's now at Kruse and Muer
On The Lake in Lake Orion ... 10
a.m. to 3 p.m., adults $14.95, and
$7.95 kids 12 and under ... One of
the stations, not included in the price,
is a Mimosa and Bloody Mary station,
where guests play their own bartender
and mix beverages as they want them.
QUESTION & ANSWER DEPT ...
Q. "I agree with you that the hot dog
and soft drink combination at Costco is
an excellent deal, but why didn't you
mention the one that Sam's Club has,
too? It is also a 1/4 lb. hot dog and the
same all-you-can-drink pop ... Also
$1.50 for the hot dog sandwich and
beverage of your choice. I've had it at
both places and I think it is just as good
at Sam's Club as at Costco." ... Lillian
Gastman.
A. You are 100 percent correct, Lil
... Sam's Club, the nation's largest
members-only warehouse, has the
same terrific deal, too ... The Costco
and Sam's Club offerings are not only
the same price, but both of their hot-
ties are steamed, kosher, all-beef good-
ies ... Costco has Sinai Kosher and
Sam's Club serves Best's Kosher. ❑
