FOR THE AGES

Max M. Fisher,

1908-2005

Max's

each

outhfield funeral director David
Techner told the story about how an
African American woman called Ira
Kaufman Chapel on Sunday, March 6, to
find out if it was appropriate for her to
attend Max M. Fisher's funeral that day.
She told Techner that she attends church
regularly in her hometown of Detroit,
Techner asked her what her connection
with the family was. She told him that she
was born in Detroit, was 69 years old and
that she lived in a better world because of
Max Fisher.
After the funeral, Techner by chance met
up with the woman, who would not give him
her name. "She told me how uplifted she was
by this funeral," Techner said. "She said that
Mr. Fisher was just such a beautiful man."

Using your home to get money is easy.

T

her father's life and times, Max
Fisher's youngest daughter,
Marjorie Fisher, recalled her first dig and
how Max thought Egypt was too dangerous
a place to go.
"I was persistent in my argument and
eventually won our discussion on the sub-
ject, so I thought," recalls Marjorie, adjunct
assistant professor of Near Eastern Studies
at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Returning home, she discovered that her
father had requested a background check
of her travel companions and the area she
was to visit. She also learned that he had
her followed by security.
"My father never stifled my love of learn-
ing," she said, "but rather encouraged it
while still making sure that I was protected
from all harm.
"Many speak about him being a quiet
diplomat but I found him to be a gentle pro-
tective father who wanted all of his children
to expand their horizons while making sure
they were safe."

The Annual Percentage Rates (APRs) on Standard Federal Bank's Home Equity Lines of Credit are tied to Prime. Prime is the highest Prime Rate as published in the "Money Rates" section of The Wall Street
Journal on the last publishing day of the calendar month immediately preceding the billing cycle. The margin tied to Prime varies and depends on the approved credit line amount and combined loan-to-value.

APRs disclosed above assume a combined loan-to-value of 80% or less. On February 28, 2005, Prime was 5.50% and the APR on Standard Federal Bank's Home Equity Line of Credit products varied between
4.75% and 8.50%. Prime is a variable rate; as it changes, the APR on your account will change. The maximum APR is 21 %. A balloon payment will result at the end of the ten-year draw period. The Home Equity
Lines are limited to owner-occupied, 1-4 family principal residences and are subject to no less than a second lien position on your property. You must carry insurance on the property that secures this loan. Flood
insurance required if necessary. There is a S50 annual fee after the first year unless you are a member of Credit Exclusives. Consult your tax advisor concerning the deductibility of interest. Closing costs
paid by Standard Federal Bank are limited to appraisal, title insurance, flood certification and recording fees. Any additional fees or conditions imposed by the city, state or county that the subject property
MIDER
is located in will be the borrower's responsibility. The APRs are subject to change without notice. Member FDIC. ©2005 Standard Federal Bank NA.
