HERMAN MILLER, 91, of
Riverview, died March 2, 2005. He
was a wholesale food distributor and

co-owner of McInerney Miller
Brothers Wholesale Food
Distributors.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife,
Minnie Miller; daughters and sons-
in-law, Linda and Henry Bechek of
Orchard Lake, Beth and Howard
Simon of Ohio; son and daughter-in-
law, Aric and Mary Ann Miller of
Riverview; grandchildren, Lorrie
Bechek, Abby and Ted Hoot, Cathy
and John Gifford, Ellen Simon and
Joel Caminer, Barry and Shawn
Simon, Jessica Miller, Matthew
Miller; great-grandchildren, Marcus

Gifford. He was the dear brother of
the late Max Miller, the late Clara
Silberman and the late Ann

BEN RUBENS, 90, of West

Bloomfield, died March 5, 2005. He
was the owner of King Cole Market
in Detroit and retired 45 years ago.

He was also a member of the Masons.
Mr. Rubens is survived by his wife
of 63 years, Eileen "Honey" Rubens;
sons and daughter-in-law, Dr.
Lawrence Rubens of Nebraska and
Allan and Lola Rubens of Ann Arbor;
daughter and fiance, Karen Rubens
and Neil Black of Farmington Hills;
daughters-in-law, Margo Rubens,
Judith Burdick and her husband,
James; grandchildren, Ryan, Michael
and Veronica Rubens, Matthew and
Daniel Rubens, Lisa Rozencweig and
fiance, Donald Kovach, David and
Jason Rozencweig, Jennifer and
Steven Malson, Andrew and Laura
Rubens; great-grandchildren, Lindsey
and Gabrielle Malson. He was the
beloved father of the late Dr. Mark
Rubens.
Interment at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park Cemetery.

ISAAC SHAMAI, 82, died March 1,
2005, in Southfield. He arrived in
Montreal from Lithuania as a child
with his mother. He was raised by
her, and for some years lived at the
Montefiore Orphans Home, where
his mother taught Hebrew.
He graduated MacDonald College
at McGill University after serving in
the RCAF during World War II. He
wed Ethel April Cohen in 1948; the
couple were pioneers in Israel, living
on the Givot Brenner Kibbutz. In
later years, following divorce, he
moved to Detroit, where he was hap-
pily married to Kathleen, until her
death in 2002.

Mr. Shamai employed many people

through Arlan's Tile in Dearborn.
Two of these young men purchased
the company some 35 years later
upon Mr. Shamai's retirement in

2000.
He is survived by his daughters and
their husbands and partners; his
grandchildren, Zoey and Trevor,
Marc, Sam, Ariel, Zachary and
Ethan.
A memorial service is planned in
Detroit at a time and place to be
announced. Contributions may be
made to the Jewish Family Service of
Metropolitan Detroit.

CHARLOTTE SHEBOWICH, 86,

of Southfield, died March 3, 2005. A
bookkeeper for many years, she previ-
ously had worked for the state as an
administrative secretary. She was a
past member of the Mezeritcher Club
and a member of Jewish Women's
International for over 50 years. In
