The Jewish Academy board, staff, parents, students and alumni extend their heartfelt condolences to the family of Max Fisher Our thoughts and prayers are with you. "May God comfort you among all the mourners of Zion and Israel 7 zr- With his wife, Marjorie, at his side, Max receives the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's highest honor, the Fred M. So during the meal, I asked both Max and Marjorie the same question: I was wonder- ing if, when they considered their lives, could they quantify what number of impor- tant decisions had worked out well: Half? Three-quarters? Simultaneously, as if in stereo, Max and Marjorie replied, "You don't do that. You don't look back." Max and Marjorie smiled at each other, and then Marjorie said, "You don't do it because there is always tomorrow." It was a view that matched her hus- band's. Late in the life, when someone complimented Max on an accomplishment, he would often say, "But the day's not ended," meaning that there remained more for him to do. Now, even though he has gone, the great lesson of his 96 years is that the day has not ended for the rest of us. We still have our responsibilities to fulfill — to our fami- lies, to our work, to our neighbors, to the world. And, at this sad hour, I take comfort in the fact that Max would expect no less of us. Fisher c' Lend of -ate Center Beloved. --c "Max was one of the pro-Israel movement's most impassioned political activists and was one of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's most dedicated supporters. No private citizen has played so profound a diplomatic role between the White House and Jerusalem than Max Fisher. A role model for every AIPAC activist, Max worked closely as the consum- mate adviser to every Republican president since Dwight D. Eisenhower and every Israeli prime minister since Golda Meir. Max was the only person in AIPAC's 50-year history honored with a lifetime appointment to the AIPAC executive committee. His leadership and dedication in support of a strong and abiding relationship between the United States and Israel stands as a lasting memorial." — Howard Kohr, AIPAC executive director and our community E ] THE CENTER Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit D.
