Woman Talks On Modesty When Gila Manolson started studying the Jewish laws of modesty at age 22, she was blown away by the idea that trading her jeans and tank top for a long skirt and long sleeves could elevate her spiritually. But the change was so trans- formative, that Manolson, now a mother of seven who lives in Jerusalem, was excited. Today, she speaks and teaches women about this topic and others, including Jewish dating. Her two books, one about dating, another about modesty, have taken the Orthodox Jewish world by storm, and now she is poised to release a second expanded edition of her modesty book, Outside/Inside,. Manolson will appear at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Young Israel of Oak Park for a women-only talk, "Inside, Outside, Upside Down: The Challenge of the Jewish Woman in Relationship to Community, Family and Herself." The program is sponsored by Young Israel of Southfield, Ezrat Nashim of Young Israel of Oak Park, Yeshivat Akiva PTA, National Council of Synagogue Youth, Elite Kosher Catering, Howard and Michal Korman in memory of Amiel Galazan, Elaine and Richard Kahn, Stuart and Dr. Janet Snider, Lynne and Avy Schreiber, Miriam and Chaim Stocker in memory of their grandparents and Drs. Mintzi and Gene Schramm. In her book, Manolson, a graduate of Yale, admits that tzniut, or modesty, may not be a panacea for all our trou- bles, but it's key in turning things around." The program will explore the intellectual side to this concept. Cost $10 per person, $5 for students. There will be a refreshment afterglow. RSVP to Lynne Schreiber: (248) 443- 8792.
