Raton, Fla., formerly of Detroit, died
Feb. 23, 2005. The owner of Beresh
Jewelers, he was born above the store
when it was located on Michigan
Avenue in Detroit. He was the second
generation of a now three-generation
business, founded in 1904 and now
located in Dearborn. He was a mem-
ROBERT S. ERNSTEIN, 76, of
West Bloomfield, died Feb. 17, 2005.
He was a 1953 graduate of the
University of Michigan Law School, a
member of Tau Epsilon Rho legal fra-
ternity and a founding member of
Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, University

DR. MAX BEITMAN, 92, of
Farmington Hills, died Feb. 24, 2005.
He graduated from Detroit College of
Medicine at 21 and was already a
member of a medical honors fraternity
when he became an intern. During
World War II, he was the head triage
doctor on Normandy Beach as a cap-
tain in the Army.
For many years, Dr. Beitman was a
partner of Dr. Willard Mayer. He was
also a founding physician of the the
Northend Clinic and Sinai Hospital.
In his 45 year-practice, he was also a
physician for Michigan Bell and did
insurance examinations. For 25 years,
he was medical
director for the
Jewish Home for
Aged. He was also a
professor of inter-
nal medicine at
Wayne State
University. As an
amateur musician,
he played viola, was
in the Doctors
String Quartet and
with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Beitman is survived by daughter
and son-in-law Shirley and Newton
Bernstein of Bloomfield Hills; son and
daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert and Keri
Beitman of Bloomfield Hills; grand-
children, James and Amy Bernstein,
Julia and Dr. Steven Brown, Hayley
and Carly Beitman, Jordyn and
Michael Goldman, Kathryn and Craig
Hecker; great-grandchildren, Lily and
Charlie Bernstein, Donovan and

West Bloomfield, died Feb. 25, 2005.

ARTHUR SIMON GOLDBERG,
82, of Murrieta, Calif, died Feb. 19,
2005. Born October 16, 1922, in
Detroit, he was the son of the late
Max and Sadie Lehrman Goldberg.
He served in Patton's 3rd Army
1270th Engineers during World War
II. He married Rose Cohn in 1944 at
Camp Chaffee, Ark.
Mr. Goldberg received his master's
degree in education from Wayne State
University and was
employed as a case-
worker for the
Department of
Welfare in Detroit
for 20 years. He
then worked as an
attendance agent
for the Board of
Education for 22
Goldberg
years, until his
retirement in 1985. At that time, he
and his wife, Rose, moved to
Murrieta, Calif. In his leisure time, he
enjoyed photography and was an
accomplished classical pianist. He was
an active member of B'nai B'rith Unit
5039 for 25 years in Michigan and 20
years in California; he served as the
president of B'nai B'rith for 20 years.
The Goldbergs are members of B'nai
Chaim in Murrieta.
Mr. Goldberg is survived by his wife
of 62 years, Rose C. Goldberg; son
and daughter-in-law, Harley and
Miriam Goldberg of Santa Cruz;
daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and
William Haas of Michigan; daughter-
in-law, Jeannette Goldberg of New
Hampshire; grandchildren, Matthew
