By the time he was 21, he was chief of the Philles Record Label (named for Phil Spector and his partner, Lester Sill), the youngest label head in music his- tory. Lobenthal, former long-time director of the Anti-Defamation League Michigan Region, will speak about events during his career at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the University of Michigan Hillel in Ann Arbor. Lobenthal helped end segregation in the South and fought against anti- Semitism during his three-decade ADL career. He helped create the Michigan anti-hate legislation used as a national model as well ase the ADEs World of Difference program for high schools. Lobenthal served as director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan and of the Ecumenical Institute for Jewish-Christian Studies. He retired from the ADL in 1996, but continued to serve as a consultant for several years. Lobenthal's talk will be followed with a question-and-answer session and a dessert reception. There is no charge for the event, which is co-sponsored by AHMOJA, a U-M black/Jewish relations group.
