We Get Questions

Q : While you were at my friend's house

arranging a funeral for her father, she gave you
clothing for him to wear. When my parents died,
I was told a shroud was mandatory?

A:

I assume that your friend's father was buried
at Beth El Memorial Park, where clothing or
shrouds are acceptable. Every other Jewish
cemetery in this city makes a shroud mandatory.
This is a requirement not just here, but
throughout the Jewish world, symbolizing our
equality, giving no one special treatment.
