U-M Hillel had recently launched the Alex Graham Memorial Sports Program, providing funding for Jewish students to compete in U-M intramural sports and against other Hillels. Through the Alex Graham Memorial Fund, participants receive U-M Hillel jerseys and use Hillel sports equipment. Alexandra Graham of West Bloomfield died in 1999 of cancer at age 17. Many philanthropic efforts have been initiated in her memory, including the annual Relay for Life to support the American Cancer Society and a bike ride in Israel to support Alyn Hospital for children. Acker and Weiss' idea has led to U-M and MSU Hillels competing each year for the Alex Graham Memorial Trophy, which goes go to the winner of two of three events — football, basketball and softball. On Dec. 5, U-M and MSU battled on the gridiron in Ann Arbor, with U- M winning the football game 25-0. On Jan. 30 in East Lansing, the two Hillels battled into overtime in basket- ball. U-M Hillel led at half time, 45-28. MSU fought back midway through the second half, going on a 14-5 run. With 45 seconds left, MSU tied the game. U- M missed some free throws and a last- second shot, leading to overtime. U-M ultimately won the game, 66-60. U-M was led by Rob Weisenfeld of Mt. Kisco, N.Y., with 32 points. Brett Bielory, of Springfield, N.J., added 11 points and 10 rebounds. MSU was led by Matt Ram of Bloomfield Hills (20 points) and Ben Gottlieb of Grand Rapids (13). U-M Hillel will be presented the Graham Cup at the U-M/MSU Hillel softball game, to be held April 17 in Ann Arbor. Alex Graham's parents, Bill and Susie, were present at the basketball game. 11am — 3pm Bottomless Mimosas & Bloody Marys "Best Pajama Contest" Prizes include: Trip to Italy & Cash Prizes We welcome Anis as our new Maitre D' formerly of Joe Muer's Winter Hours: Tuesday-Friday: Lunch and Dinner Saturday: Dinner Sunday: Brunch & Dinner 17546 Woodward Ave. (2 blocks north of McNichols) Detroit 313-865-0331 Closed Monday • Enter rear • Valet parking 922670 ► food • spirits • fun oNG H U 4 .
