Watanabe, who worked with his father,
Koji Watanabe at his dad's IVIusachi
Japanese restaurant in Southfield.
With Manhattan Club's recent addi-
tion of the Wise Guys Comedy Club
downstairs, it becomes a full-fledged
dining and entertainment operation ...
A well-stocked 30-stool bar and four
high-top tables go with the 100-capaci-
ty dining and dancing sector that is now
joined by about 225-250 laughing their
heads off in the Wise Guys area.
Manhattan Club is a six-day-a-week
operation ... no lunch ... Monday and
Tuesday, 4-midnight; Wednesday and
Thursday, 4-1; Friday, 4-2; Saturday 5-
2; closed Sunday ... All hours, daytime
and Sundays, are available for private
parties.
Live entertainment and dancing is
Tuesday-Saturday.
It is owned by the Stoyanovich family,
former owners of the three Joey's
Comedy Clubs, Dearborn, Downriver
and Livonia, the latter upstairs of their
Stoyan's restaurant ... Boris and Daraga
Stoyanovich and son Bobby ... and
Linda Dettore.
The combination of Chef Keith
Matherly's excellent food preparations,
full bar and all-around entertainment
offerings, has brought Manhattan Club
a large popularity that continues to
grow ... It is an evening out very well
spent.
TOP RESTAURATEUR Roger
Zingle, former head of the C.A. Muer
Restaurant Corporation when the
seafood followed in the Chuck Muer
tradition, is now president and chief
operating officer for all O'Charley's din-
ing spots in Michigan.
Local O'Charley's has been opened by
Roger at the former site of Cookers on
W 7 Mile in Livonia ... The casual
O'Charley's eateries are a huge favorite
with its large variety of menu items and
low prices.
ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT chicken? ...
For sure ... and maybe some thoughts
about the steaks and pastas plus, of
course, those German specialty dishes.
But seafood at Frankenmuth's
Bavarian Inn? ... No way, say folks when
it comes to thoughts about having some
seafarin' goodies.
Few better ways to let people know
than its annual Seafood Fest now
through March 28 with items like
apple-crusted salmon, crab and shrimp
cakes, sea scallops baked in a cheese
and artichoke sauce, gulf shrimp
stuffed with crab and scallops, teriyaki
sea bass over spinach and water chest-
nuts, etc.
Chicken still easily holds the top rung
at Bavarian Inn by huge numbers, but
steaks, fresh fish and seafood are making
dining visits there pretty interesting.
WHAT'LL THEY THINK of Next
Dept. ... Now there's gold in them Char
truffles at Vineyards on Northwestern
Highway in Farmington Hills for
Valentine's Day giving ... Dark choco-
late truffles topped with honest-to-
goodness 24-karat gold that can actually
be eaten ... A gift box of its Maggie's
Chocolates also has white truffles made
with real champagne ... But the choco-
late truffles drizzled with edible 24-karat
gold? ... Pretty soon people will be eat-
ing their gold fillings.
A LOT OF LIVELY Latin jazz had
listeners stomping with joy at the recent
grand opening party by Pampas Brazil-
ian Grille in Birmingham ... Former
Oak Park guitarist Sean Blackman, with
fellow strummer John Arnold, had their
five-piece band (bongo kettle drums,
percussion and side guitar) sending out
a lot of jivey rhythms.
Food in the Brazilian fashion every-
where and drinks galore ...Harvey Fink
with his signature black shirt and gray
sport jacket; Rick Brode smiling and
gracious; David Brody happy-go-lucky
as usual; psychotherapist Janet
Gumenick answering off-the-cuff ques-
tions; MA's Barbara Heller discovering
that the hanging carpenter tools were
for the parry's charity theme of Building
With Books; restaurateurs Gary
Sussman of Sweet Lorraine and
Marshall Chin of Mon Jim Lau admir-
ing the Brazilian cuisine style; chef,
author and TV personality Keith Famie
a picture of health; Charley Marcuse
told what a fine grandfather he had in
the late Judge Johnny Wise.
CONGRATS ... To Zelda Levitt on
her 95th birthday ... To Patricia Klein
on her 70th birthday, celebrated with
family table for 10 at Maggiano's of
Troy.
