Grosfelds create fund to improve social welfare needs.
N
ancy and James Grosfeld of
Bloomfield Hills have
pledged $1 million to estab-
lish a fund to better the Detroit
Jewish community.
Under the auspices of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit,
the Nancy and James Grosfeld Social
Impact Fund will support programs
Nancy and Jim Grosfeld
that will address the social welfare
needs of aging and frail adults, families
and individuals living in poverty,
social service programs, children and
adults with special needs and patients
and their families served by the Jewish
Hospice and Chaplaincy Network.
"The Grosfelds' gift is a gift of hope
and positive social impact from one of
our community's most charitable fami-
lies. It comes at a time when more
individuals than ever before are knock-
ing at the doors of our agencies asking
for our help," said Peter Alter,
Federation president. "The establish-
ment of this fund signals the start of
what we see as a new opportunity to
build on the purpose of serving those
whose needs are most critical."
The Grosfelds serve on Federation's
Board of Governors and its executive
committee. In 2001, they established
the Grosfeld Leadership Program
through their gift to the Millennium
Campaign for Detroit's Jewish Future.
"Nancy and I feel the need, at this
time, to address special needs of our
community," Jim said. "We feel that
there is need for an endowment fund
dedicated to stretching our commu-
nity safety net further."
Nancy said, "There are so
many in our community
with special needs we have
yet to address. It is our hope
that this Fund will build
momentum and initiate pro-
grams that will open doors
for those who may have
nowhere else to turn."
Nancy Grosfeld is a social
worker and a registered nurse
and a career volunteer. She's
past president of the
Federation Women's
Campaign and Education
Department, and has served
as its Campaign chair. She
also has held leadership roles
with JARC, the United
Jewish Foundation, the
Women's Council of
Cranbrook/Kingswood
Schools and Hospice of
Michigan. She serves on
Michigan Humane Society
board and is a past president.
Currently she participates
on the boards of the College for
Creative Studies, the Women's
Department of Detroit Israel Bonds,
the American Jewish Joint
Distribution Committee and Shalom
Street. She is a founding trustee of
the Jewish Women's Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit.
A private investor, Jim Grosfeld
served as chairman and chief executive
officer of Pulte Home Corporation
from 1974 to 1990. He remained a
director and co-chair of the executive
committee until 1997 when he retired
from the Pulte board.
He is a co-chair of the United
Jewish Foundation Board of Directors'
investment committee and a member
of Federation's joint fiscal oversight
committee.
He's also active with the Anti-
Defamation League Michigan Region
and is a Temple Beth El trustee. ❑
