Big Rock Chop House is a six-day
operation ... Monday-Friday 11-2
a.m. and Saturday noon-2 a.m.
It is an above-scale American chop
house that not only puts out excellent
food with exacting touches, but also
has them served by overly efficient
waitpersons. The lawash crisp bread
made at its on-the-premises bakery
has filled breadbaskets with more than
20,000 lbs. in the 20 years.
Signature dishes remain the bone-in
filet, almost 75,000 lbs., potato-
wrapped salmon, much of 97,000 lbs.,
Dover sole, 79,000 lbs., and calamari
... Biggest sellers are the juicy and ten-
der filet and the very tasty Dover sole.
In the 20 years, more than 4 million
people have come through the doors
of Eton Street and Big Rock ... con-
suming almost a million pounds of
meat, not including 17,000 pounds of
buffalo meat.
The Big Rock Chop House name
will soon also tout its seven-year
anniversary, but Norm and Bonnie
LePage's real and true celebration will
be for the location's 20-year existence
as a restaurant by the same owner ...
in much compliment to the restaurant
titles that have all enjoyed successful
runs ... and the never-sit-still ingenu-
ity by one of Michigan's premier
restaurateurs.
NEW RESTAURANT opening
soon in the shopping strip at 12 Mile
and Middlebelt in Farmington Hills
will be Gourmet Garden, an upscale
Japanese and Chinese dining spot ... It
takes 6,000 square feet of the former
Sears store location.
Steve Goren and Armada Real
Estate in Farmington Hills, handling
the Gourmet Garden arrival, also are
leasing agents for the heavily awaited
new George's Honey Tree location on
Northwestern Highway. in West
Bloomfield.
NAME OF THE BOOK coming
out by Russi Arden, former localize
now living in Lake Suzy, Fla., and first
Jewish Playboy bunny in the Detroit
locale, will be Everyman's Fantasy.
SMALL WORLD DEPT. ... Frank
Ellias received an inquiry from
Marilyn Tringali asking if he was any
relation to Andy Ellias in Colorado,
whom she knew ... Frank told her that
he was Andy's older brother ... In a
subsequent e-mail conversation,
Marilyn said she worked for Dr.
Thomas Millman, an ophthalmologist
in Rochester Hills ...Frank answered
back that his father, Dr. Sydney E
Ellias, had delivered the same Thomas
Millman as a newborn back in 1943.
ONE OF THE BEST eating deals
in this or any town has to be the quar-
ter-pound steamed Sinai Kosher hot
dog on a roll that folks in mink, sable,
dungarees, T-shirts, etc. at Cosco
smother with onions, mustard, catsup
and relish ... plus a choice of half-
dozen or more 20-ounce soft drinks
(all-you-want) ... $1.50 for a lot of
satisfying taste love.
If one Cosco store, east of Haggerty
between 14 Mile and Maple in
Commerce, goes through about 6,000
Sinai Kosher hotties a week, it is hard
to imagine how many the large inter-
national wholesale warehouse chain
sells for already cooked gobble-up
consumption.

QUESTION & ANSWER DEPT
... "Can you help settle an argument
between my wife and me? She says
that a really proper Caesar salad
should be made with melted butter
and anchovies? I say no to the butter."
... Jerry Crone.
A. "She is partially correct, Jerry ...
Very wrong on the butter, but when
Chef Caesar Cardini came up with the
salad, he did include anchovy filets ...
Few places serve it today with
anchovies ... Then again, few chefs
even know how to make an actually •
true Caesar salad."

GOOD EMPLOYEE DEPT ... He
knows from experience what he is
talking about when telling servers
right from wrong ... which is so
important and why they listen to
Marin Oala at Steve & Rocky's in
Novi, where he is the excellent
evening manager ... They recognize it,
too, from his first-hand wide experi-
ence as a former waiter at the old
Lelli's on Woodward in Detroit ... and
now a fine server during the day at
Brasserie Zinc in West Bloomfield.
