In one of his personal ventures,
Gilbert worked with Steve Greenberg,
managing director of Allen and Co.,
New York, an investment banking
firm. Steve is the son of Hank
Greenberg, the legendary Detroit
Tigers slugger. "Dan is a terrific guy
because he mixes tremendous business
success with generous charitable
work," said Greenberg. "And I espe-
cially admire him as a wonderful fam-
ily man.
Gilbert and his wife, Jennifer, have
four children under the age of 9.
With eyes on Cleveland, he hasn't for-
gotten the charitable organizations in
the Detroit area Jewish community.
He also is the current president of
JARC and serves on the board of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit.
A staunch Republican, his dona-
tions qualified him to have lunch
once with President George W. Bush
at his Crawford, Texas, ranch.

Detroit Pistons owner Bill Davidson
broke his public silence on the
November brawl at his Palace of
Auburn Hills, involving the Pistons,
Indiana Pacers and some fans.
"The fight was imported into our
arena by the other team; our players
behaved well and our security
responded well," said Davidson.
Pacers officials have blamed the
brawl on the Piston coaches and
Palace security, claiming they let the
fight get out of hand.
"The criticism is not justified," said
Davidson. "The real culprits were the
referees. They lost control; they never
should have let Ron Artest lay down
on the scorekeeper's table; that
incensed the fans. But there's nothing
we can do about the refs because they
belong to a 'secret' society."
