Student Involvement For Rabbi Eisemann, the best part of his work is his interaction with students. "The beauty of the program is that we have 25 good Jewish kids each semester coming together for Jewish growth. It takes a unique kind of kid who is willing to make this time commitment and to learn new opin- ions." In turn, past Maimonides fellows expressed gratitude for the education they received. "We are really lucky to have world-class rabbis," said U-M sopho- more and JRC President Andrew Landau of West Bloomfield, who graduated from the program in December. "I replenished my Judaism and Rabbi I learned to view my reli- gion in a whole new light." Echoing Landau, Junior David Morley of Okemos, a Maimonides fellow in the fall of 2003 and a for- mer JRC president, said, "It gave me a tremendous education about traditional Judaism and what role I want it to play in my life." U-M Hillel President Monica Woll, a West Bloomfield sophomore who participated in Maimonides in the fall of her freshman year, partic- ularly enjoyed the visits to Oak Park. Having attended Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit and the Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit, Woll had had some expo- sure to the Orthodox community. However, she explained, "most students got a better understanding of how the Orthodox live and learned about Judaism from a different perspective." In addition to becoming Jewish leaders on campus, the majority of participants continue their Jewish education with advanced Ivlaimonides classes at the Jewish Resource Center. Sophomore Jeffrey Gross of West Bloomfield, a recent Maimonides graduate, said the program "opened the door" for further Judaic study. "I'm not sure where it's taking me," he said, "but I'm at the point in my college career when I'm trying to figure it out." 71 _ DEPRESSION ANXIETY PEER-PRESSURE LOW SELF-ESTEEM 7 = The Federation's Alliance for Jewish Education's Opening the Doors invites you to a seminar featuring nationally recognized social worker, author and television personality Federation's Alliance for Jewish Education Family Circle 10th Annual Seminar for parents, professionals, clergy and community leaders Eugene and Marcia Applebaum Center for Jewish Living of Congregation Shaarey Zedek 4200 Walnut Lake Road, West Bloomfield For more information, or to sign up call (248) 642-4260, ext. 375 or ferrier@jfmd.org To register online: http://thisisfederation.org/alliance/familycircle Li) Pew c o Visit us online: www.thisisfederation.org W • - Ii 1 — 1) Wedding And Party Specialists Flowers For All Occasions What's REST...
