A team from the Beth Jacob School
for Girls in Oak Park won the fourth-
grade division of the Southfield Public
Library's Battle of the Books last
month.
The 25-year-old annual contest is
for students who live or attend school
in Southfield. Each grade level is given
seven books to read. At the battle, a
moderator asks 35 content-based ques-
tions. The answers are recorded imme-
diately by the teams and scored.
The Beth Jacob team, the Amazing
Readers, defeated 24 other teams in
their division. The team included
Batya Cohen, Chana Faygie Kellman,
Leah Lowenberg, Kayla Mayerfeld,
Debbie Moskowitz and Shira Parshan.
The team was coached by parents
Jayne Cohen and Lisa Parshan.
Two teams from Yeshivat Akiva did

well. The Bookworms placed third.
They included David Brystowski,
Naomi Craft, Alex Gross, Joey Jubas,
Hannah Korelitz and Madeleine
Warshay. Coaches were Seth Korelitz
and Ida Warshay. The Boys 'R Us
team finished fourth. They included
Henry Elbaum, Avi Katz, Sruli Klein,
Akiva Pollack, Hershel Rogers and
Aharon Wayne and were coached by
Shoshana Pollack and Michelle
Steinnon.
In the middle school division, the
Reading Wizzes from Yeshiva Beth
Yehudah took third place. The team
included Yaakov Tzvi Wayntraub, Yossi
Tobi, Betzalel Sosne, Asher Hennes,
Mend), Cohen and Shlomo Batt. Team
coach was Jayne Cohen.
