Arbor holds up a cotton ball during an
activity that had participants experience
the challenges of being blind.

Janna Rogat facilitated the activity
stating, "All of the kids from kinder-
gartners to 5th-graders really enjoyed
the hands-on approach to learning
about the ways we are different," she
said.
The multi-ethnic arts-and-crafts sta-
tion exposed children to the Japanese
art of origami, Indian henna painting
and a collage representing racial unity.
The "I Have a Dream Quilt" station
facilitated intergenerational discussions
about dreams for the future. Children
and seniors worked side by side to cre-

Special guests included human and
canine representatives from Paws with
a Cause, a national organization that
trains dogs to aid those with physical
disabilities achieve greater independ-

The day drew to a close with the
performance of the Gratitude Steel
Band (its African name, Eguana En

show gave children the opportunity to
play musical instruments, learn about
the language, instruments and geogra-
phy of Africa and participate in a
round of limbo.
The final presentation included a
poem recited by some of the children.
The poem delivered the message of
the day, to celebrate the uniqueness of
every person.
