Lionel Bart — the British Jewish composer died in 1999 — added addi- tional dialogue as well as new lyrics and music for this updated production. Early Days Wolland, in his first national tour, con- siders himself very lucky to have found opportunities early in his career. A magna cum laude graduate of Cornell University of New York in June 2003, the actor, with English and theater majors, moved to New York City, where he recently understudied the tide role in a production of Fiorello starring Tony LoBianco. He also appeared in Seattle regional theater as one of five men in The Cardigans, a pop musical. "I started singing at age 9 and just progressed," recalls Wolland, whose twin brother works in the financial services industry and will see the play when it stops in Pittsburgh. "I joined school and community choruses before I began studying voice with one of the musical directors. The more I sang, the more I wanted to sing, and my parents were very supportive. They gave all of their children lots of leeway." As a member of the ensemble, the vocalist gets to be part of many hits that came from this show. "Who Will Buy?" is his favorite because it emphasizes the innocence of Oliver and the people around him. He also has fun with the number "Oom Pah Pah." Other songs include "Food, Glorious Food," "Consider Yourself," "Where Is Love?" and "I'd Do Anything." Wolland joined the tour in October and will continue with it through clos- ing performances in March. He enjoys the travel and the chance to see different parts of the country he's never visited. His one tie to Michigan has to do with its being the home of his sister's fiance, Jeffrey Kaplow. The couple met at Yale. "I love everyone in the company, and they help make touring lots of fun," says Wolland, who is single. "We get together after the shows, andrve made many friends. I also get time for reading and just finished The DaVinci Cock "My main goal is just to keep working as an actor and stay afloat in the world by being able to support myself."
