COOL RUNNINGS Continued from page 7 RYSLER JEEP ER IN WALLED LAKE ITURE . • 41r. , I "7:701111 "1 • Chrysler Pacifica Chrysler Crossfire Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 There are several minor annoyances in the Discovery, too. The door handle is placed in an awkward spot close to your shin, and it's difficult to find at night. The rear middle headrest blocks the view of the back window, and the radio controls on the steering column are awkward as well. The LR3 fixes them all; the price differential is an extra $9,395. The LR3 sports a 4.4-liter, 300-hp alu- minum alloy V8, with a compression ratio of 10.5:1 and 315 ft- lb of torque. The LR3 gets 14 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway. When you look at the Land Rover, you might dream of the "Green Hills of Africa." But you know in your gut the only chance you'll have of going "off-road" is if you back into the snow pile in the Somerset Collection's Troy parking lot. The owner's manual is the length of a Hemingway novel, and you better read up because the dashboard has a lot of buttons. All swipes aside, the LR3 is fun to drive, and I think it might take some business away from the Range Rover. It's got curb appeal. ❑ S TAR SHUMAIM CHRYSLER JEEP th, creAtAis. twat ar beat at abet-U/7a rt Co/mita ts, sqede-r wetamer 4e,rvt.c.e.* reiatioAtif gar ccietgiwzr. Wei , 1111 S.
