Ool 0 Financing Or up to P0,000 In Cash rebates es, dear, I'm on the curb. I could be on a boulder. Or in a swamp. Or any place I want. I'm in the brand new 2005 Land Rover LR3, which replaces the venerable Land Rover Discovery series. I drove 'em both and there's a world of difference, including the price. Nothing was more fun than taking the LR3 through its paces on a 150-foot, off-road track in front of the Land Rover of Farmington Hills dealership. You start on a 35-degree pitch that tips the Rover practi- cally on its side, followed by a bumpy gravel pit, fol- lowed by a climb that closely resembles the view taken from a Cape Canaveral launch pad, fol- lowed by a descent that closely resembles a wind- shield view of dirt. All Land Rover models, including the Range Rover, can handle the track with equal aplomb. While the Discovery uses a manual four-wheel drive shift control, the LR3 has "Terrain Response," which allows you to select a program through a small control knob that changes driving settings for grass/gravel and snow, mud/ruts, sand or crawl- ing over rocks. There is no "curb" setting, though — I had to wing it. With a base price of $44,330, the LR3 is almost six inch- es longer, an inch wider and about 2.5 inches lower than the Discovery SE, and handles on a paved road as smoothly as the upscale Range Rover. y Continued on page 8 2004 Lincoln LS V-8 Sport 36 month lease: $399 per month or buy for $24,900 $855 due at signing Ool 0 Financing or un to -$8,600 in Cash rebates 2004 Mercury Monterey 24 month lease: only $1,174 due at signing or only $4,999 pre-pay VARSITY #1 in Sales and Service 7 Years Running 49251 Grand River Ave. at Wixom Rd.
