She is survived by her sister and broth- er-in-law, Joyce and Joseph Spitzer of Farmington Hills; adoring husband, Ronald Bombriant; daughter, Chris Karamalikis of Miami, Fla.; granddaugh- ter, Mackenzie. She was a commercial and residential builder and developer. She was also a member of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, Yad Ezra, Hacinssah and a tran- scriptionist for the blind. Daniel Edward Hubert, a psychiatrist who grew up in Detroit, died in Los Angeles Dec. 25, 2004, of complications from treatment for a glioblastoma brain tumor. He was 59. The son of the late Dr. William and Esther Hubert, he graduated from Mumford High School in 1963, the University of Michigan in 1967 and Wayne State University Medical School in 1971. Dr. Hubert used his artistic and pro- fessional skills to educate the public about disease, winning 25 TV and film awards for his documentary and film work. He wrote and composed music and produced films and documentaries about Tourette syndrome, dystonia, schizophrenia, autism, suicide, alco- holism, breast cancer — and the first artificial heart patient, Barney Clark, shown on PBS and Nova. Movie stars such as Gregory Peck, Jack Lemmon, McLean Stevenson, Steve Allen and William Conrad narrated many of his films. He was honored by his patients and chosen to receive the "Hands and Hearts Award" and the "Falk Fellowship Award," which at the time was given to the top 10 medical residents in the country. Reflecting his drive to help war veter- ans, Dr. Hubert devoted much of his career to Veterans Administration med- ical facilities and programs. He was a clinical associate professor at UCLA, Day Hospital Program chief at the West Los Angeles V.A. Medical Center and Medical Director for the VA. Community Rehab project, where he was instrumental in instituting post- traumatic stress disorder treatment for Viemam and Persian Gulf war veterans. He also served as vice chair of data and safety monitoring board for greater Los Angeles Di: Daniel Hubert Healthcare System Research and Development Board, which is in charge of oversight for ethics and patient safety for ongoing medical research proj- ects. Dr. Hubert also worked for the L.A. County Women's Jail and in the field of substance abuse. Dr. Hubert was athletic and especially enjoyed tennis. A pianist, he shared his love of music with his son, Alex. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sandra; son, Alex; brothers, and sisters- in-law, Norman and Wendy Hubert, Bobby and Paulette Hubert; mother-in- law, Marie Ann Glauser; brothers-in law, Bob Glauser and Jim Glauser; sisters-in- law, Jeanie Glauser and Nancy Orosco; many nieces and nephews.
