B'nai Moshe Classes

Congregation B'nai Moshe's Kolel
Moshe Institute for Lifelong Jewish
Learning has announced a number of
new classes for January. All classes are
open to the community. For most
classes, advance registration is not
required.
On Shabbat, Jan. 8, Kolel Moshe
invites adult learners to stay and learn
after services with community educa-
tor Barry Levine on "Parasha Preview"
of the weekly Torah portions. This is a
free, drop-in series. Each session
begins at about 12:30 p.m. and runs
for one hour.
On Sunday, Jan. 16, Kolel Moshe
and the Jewish Academy of
Metropolitan Detroit will present the
first in a three-part brunch-and-learn
series featuring Eric Grossman and
Daniella HarPaz Mechnikov titled,
"Literature, Language, and Identity."
Cost is $18 per session (including
brunch and shiur) or $10 for the shiur
alone. Reservations are a must for
brunch, but not the shiur. Walk-ins
are welcome for the study segment of
the program. There is no charge for
the shiur for JAMD students, other
high-school students or college stu-
dents, or for those holding Kolel
Moshe Passports to Torah. There is a
$8 charge for brunch, however.
On Monday night, Jan. 24, Kolel
Moshe will present a shiur by Eric
Grossman at 8 p.m. in honor of Tu
b'Shevat.

Sisterhood Tours DIA

"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly —
Women in Art" will be the subject of
a Temple Beth El Sisterhood tour of
the Detroit Institute of Arts, Thursday,
Jan. 20, led by DIA docent and art
history professor Wendy Evans.
The group will bus from Temple
Beth El at 11 a.m. for lunch and the
DIA tour, returning at 3:30 p.m.
Charge for bus and tour is $20 for sis-
terhood members and $25 for guests.
Cost of the lunch, in the DIA Cafe, is

not included.
To join the tour, make out a check
payable to the sisterhood and mail to

Shir Tikvah Winter Fest

Congregation Shir Tikvah will have an
evening of food, fun and entertain-
ment at its winter celebration 7 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 22, at the synagogue.
Sponsored by the CST Social
Committee, the evening will include
music by the Schmaltz band and the
Suzuki Royal Oak Camerata Group,
singer Cheryl Strebel, the Hot Mamas
chorus line and a skit by Melwyn and
Neal.
Rabbi Arnie Sleutelberg and come-
dian/actor Ben Konstantin will per-
form stand-up comedy. There will also
be a silent auction.
Appetizers and dessert will be
served; a wine bar will be available at
an additional charge. Food donations
and volunteers to set up and serve are
needed. Those who wish to make food
donations should bring finger food —
hors d'oeuvres and desserts on trays
and ready to serve.
Persons who wish to volunteer or
donate a dessert or appetizer should

Residents of Detroit-area JARC homes
will be guests at the celebration.
Cost of the evening is $10 per per-
son for members; $18 per member
couple and $15 per person for non-
members. Advance paid reservations
are required. Checks should be made
payable to Congregation Shir Tikvah
Winter Celebration and mailed to the
synagogue, Attn: Social Committee
Winter Celebration, 3900 Northfield
Parkway, Troy, MI 48084. Deadline is
Jan. 18.

Yoga For You

"Stretch Your Body and Grow Your
Soul" will be held with Rabbi Rachel
Shere at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Classes will be offered 9:30-11 a.m.
the first Wednesday of each month. A
certified instructor from the Center
for Yoga will lead the class, along with
meditations by Rabbi Shere. Fruit and
coffee will be served.
The next class is set for Jan. 5.
There is no charge, but reservations
