out a learning plan. "But most people
come with something to learn —
everything from materials to learn how
to read, to Halachah [Jewish law] and
Gemarah [Talmud] studies," he said.
Gross was amazed at the turnout of
the first class that had over 60 partici-
pants.
"I thought it would be me and my
kid and a couple of others," he said.
"But the room was packed — and not
only with teenage boys, like I expected
— but there were a lot of kids my
sons age, too.
The boys in the class range from
ages 4-16, with many comina back
each week. And the kids don't

The three congregations have
blended well. "Each synagogue has
had a nice showing of involvement,"
Rabbi Jundef said.
And that's important for Gross.
"Being part of the program has
allowed us to meet fathers and sons we
didn't know from our own syna-
gogue," he said. "We've started to sit
together at a table with other boys my
son's age and their fathers. I would
imagine over time the boys will want
to get together to..play.
On a different level, he said, "There
is a lot of nachas [joy] to be gained
from sitting and studying with your
child. The environment of being in a
room where everyone is learning their
own thing is a wonderful atmosphere
to be in — especially when half the
people there are kids. When everyone
is learning, it becomes the thing to be
doing." 1
