After serving two years in the Israeli
Army intelligence unit and working
for six months in the Seeds Jerusalem
Center, Kaplan now is a freshman at
Harvard University, majoring in gov-
ernment.

The Seeds Experience

So far, about 2,800 teens from 22
countries or ethnic groups have
attended the Maine camp, with 500
new campers every summer.
Palestinian Badawi Qawasmi, 25,
came to the first Seeds camp in 1993
from Ramallah.
"At first, all I wanted to do was

score points," he admitted. "I didn't
want to listen to anyone else. After 11
years, I can't really
separate my life
from Seeds of
Peace."
Now a graduate
student in business
at Stanford
University in
California,
Qawasmi said he
and his fellow
Badawi
Seeds "don't prom-
ise to make change. But we do prom-
ise to make the effort, as hard as we
can."

Dustin Frankel, 18, of Cleveland,
who is interviewed several times in
Seeds, said, "Each time I watch [the
movie], I get the exact same emotions
I got when I went through that sum-
mer.
"It's painful because it was a painful
summer," he said. "I came in thinking
that, because I'm an American, I'd be
a moderator, totally objective. But it's
impossible to stay neutral between two
groups who are fighting about things
they've believed all their lives."
Frankel said the camp experience
convinced him that peace in the
region lies in "a two-state solution."

at the level of people, of families and

process. You see that in the film.
