r. Michael Nevins, the father
of Adat Shalom Synagogue
Rabbi Daniel Nevins, will
co-lead a seven-day trip to Israel
next May.
The trip's purpose is to spotlight
Jewish medical heritage by considering
Jewish medical history and bioethical
topics. Tour leaders and Israeli scholars
will lead discussions. The mission is
open to all.
Keshet, the Tel Aviv-based Center
for Jewish Medical Heritage, is spon-
soring the May 15-22 mission. Co-
leaders are Michael Nevins, and
Gerald Baum, both medical doctors.
Since subject matter will be non-tech-
nical, the tour is suitable for non-med-
ical participants as well as for physi-
cians and other health care providers.
Highlights will include discussions
and lectures with leaders of Israel's
medical, research and teaching facili-
ties at Sheba Medical Center,
Technion-Israel Institute of
Technology Medical School, Hadassah
Hospital, Manuel Glazier Institute for
the History of Medicine, Soroka
Medical Center and Shaare Zedek
Medical Center.
The medical career and teachings of
Maimonides will be examined; and the
museum home of Dr. Albert Ticho,
famous ophthalmologist of 19th cen-
tury Jerusalem, will be visited. The
itinerary includes the Ein Harod Art
Museum, the Old City of Jerusalem to
learn about early medical pilgrims to
the Holy Land, Yad Vashem
Holocaust Memorial Center to discuss
the medical martyr Janusz Korczak,
the mystical city of Safed, Tiberias on
the Sea of Galilee, the Southern
Temple Mount excavations, the Golan
Heights, the Palmach Museum in Tel
Aviv and Ray Kook's house.
Tour coordinator is Keshet: The
Center for Educational Tourism in
Israel. The $2,475 per person charge
includes round-trip El Al flights
between Newark, N.J. and Israel,
accommodations at top hotels in Tel
Aviv, Haifa and Tiberias, two kosher
meals per day and other expenses. For
