Dr. Zvi Gitelman, Professor of Political Science and Judaic Studies at the
University of Michigan, will lead this in-depth Judaica tour to Lithuania, Ukraine

and Poland. Daily lectures will deal with such topics as: Haskalah, Hasidism,

Zionism, Communism, Hebrew and Yiddish literatures and the religious culture that
permeated Jewish life into the twentieth century. Dr. Gitelman will also brief us on
the sights and on the politics, history and culture of these countries.

• A couple of Holocaust survivors.
• An elderly man who chooses to live downtown near his sick broth-
er so that he can take care of him.
• An 80-year-old woman who helped augment her small income by
cooking and running errands for neighbors. Recently, she suffered
some injuries which have severely reduced her additional income.
• A husband and father of a 5-year-old who was recently laid off
from his job. He was able to find a part-time job to help make
ends meet.
