Capital Campaign Projects

FIDF

FIDF Capital Campaign Projects help build or refurbish recreation centers, sports centers,
cultural and educational centers, memorial rooms, auditoriums, and "soldiers' homes" throughout Israel.
These facilities — made possible through the generous financial support of the Friends of the IN in the
United States — have proven themselves time and again, significantly enhancing the quality of life for
active IDE combat soldiers.

"To understand how important what the Friends of the IDF is doing for the day-to-day combat
soldier, you first have to understand the 'landscape' of this kind of soldier's life," states Tamir,
commander of the Efraim Brigade. "He or she has three years' of service. It's like a macabre marathon
race. To get to the finish line — emotionally and physically — you must create a kind of routine that allows
you to survive as a soldier and a human being. You have to have moments where you can escape the
pressure of a soldier's life, fill your lungs with air, and revive yourself. The gyms,
basketball courts, synagogues, and clubs that the FIDF builds provide critical oases of normalcy in a
soldier's otherwise chaotic life...I cannot overstate how strategically important what the FIDE does is to
a soldier's state-of-mind."
